ABOUT SCOTT MAJIDI

Scott Majidi is a screen composer and multi-disciplined musical artist based in Sydney, NSW. Scott's signature style emerged from his fascination with combining western classical, traditional middle eastern, and contemporary music - and how they can be used to explore the intersections between music and culture. Drawing inspiration from his upbringing as a member of the Persian diaspora within Australia, and his propensity for experimentation, Scott continues to explore complex feelings and ideas in his work, finding ways to present them that feel both familiar and brand new at the same time.

Learning multiple instruments and taking various music classes when he was younger, Scott moved from his small hometown of Albany, WA, to undertake an undergraduate degree of Screen Production in Perth. It was here that his passion for music would coalesce with his latest interest in filmmaking. Upon completing this degree, Scott made the journey from the WA to Sydney in 2019 to study his Masters of Screen: Music at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), which he graduated in 2021.

Since graduating from his masters, Scott has scored many film works - many of them being played at varuious film festivals, private functions and in educational settings. Career highlights include having scored multiple award-winning short films and an ABC mini-series, selected by festivals such as SFF, SKFF. AACTA, AWFF, Flickerfest and more.

In addition to film scoring, Scott has work across other mediums spanning media content, live performance, marketing, and advertising. He's worked with multiple organisations such as Bus Stop Films, Vivid, Rhythm Village, Fringe, AFTRS, and Ironbark Films. He has collaborated with professional musicians from prominent ensembles like Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Australian Chamber Orchestra. Scott has also worked with other notable ensembles like Taikoz, Symphony Central Coast, and various national and international artists.

Scott's artistic journey is grounded by a strong moral desire to champion inclusion and diversity across all his various projects, with an emphasis on representing marginalised groups including LGBTQIA+, CALD and Disability communities. In addition to creative work, Scott is also passionate about teaching, research, and community engagement. Through these contributions, he hopes to support the continued growth of emerging artists and keep encouraging meaningful connections between music and audiences.

Looking ahead, Scott continues to develop new projects that challenge conventions and broaden artistic dialogue. His work reflects an ongoing commitment to the vibrancy of the ever-evolving contemporary music landscape.
